Every time there is a trip or even better, a road trip, I get so excited I can be all packed and ready in less than half an hour!  This time it was different, because since I found out about the air balloon competition, all I could imagine was riding an air balloon in a red dress!! In my artistic brain, an event like this required a floating red dress and I could not think of anything else I should be bringing!  Thankfully by now, I do know by heart my list of essentials (if you missed that post check it out for your trip packing), so I managed to pack up few other things!

Ogni volta, che devo andare in un viaggio, sono talmente euforica che mi ci vuole mezz’ora per preparare la borsa!!  Questa volta era tutto diverso, dal momento che avevo saputo che dovevamo partire per la competizione internazionale di mongolfiere, mi ero fissata sul vestito rosso!  Nella mia testa potevo solo immaginare volare in una mongolfiera gigante, indossando un vestitino rosso e non mi volevo nient’altro!  Sognavo di essere come la ragazza della campagna Dior, ma per fortuna, in anni d’esperienza ho memorizzato bene la lista d’essenziali da portare in valigia ed ero riuscita ad mettere dentro un paio d’altre cose!

The event was quite fun and magical! It did require waking up really early, as the teams all come together around 6 am for breakfast and afterwards start setting up their baskets with gas tanks and balloons.  This hobby is not cheap, as an air balloon cost about €80 000 plus expenses and maintenance, travelling and obviously adequate weather conditions are required.  However, can you imagine flying in one!!

L’evento era molto divertente ed anche un pò magico!!  Certo richiedeva svegliarsi prestissimo, perchè le squadre si riunivano per le 6 del mattino per impostare i loro cestelli con bombole e mongolfiere.  Questo hobby non è poco costoso, solo la mongolfiera costa € 80 000, più il mantenimento, impegno a viaggiare e sperare nel tempo favorevole, ma sicuramente volare in una mongolfiera è eun’esperienza unica in suo genere!!

It turned out I had to give up the red dress obsession, those creative styling ideas work perfectly in high fashion campaigns, but not so much in real life, so I settled on blue leggings-pants, a flower shirt and a pair of sneakers (flying in a balloon basket is quite unstable, I was told, so shoes and the outfit have to be adequate)!

Mi sono dovuta rassegnare sull’idea del vestiti rosso, quando mi avevano avvisato che volare in mongolfiera poteva essere un pò instabile!  Mi ero accontentata di panta-collant blu, una blusa a fiori pastello e sneakers alti per stare comodi!

That day I woke up super early, got my outfit on and filled with excitement of a little girl, left the hotel room for the event!   I mean, just seeing one floating an air balloon in the sky is always a show that can fill one with lightness and happiness. Now, just imagine seeing five, ten or even twenty of these colorful gigantic bubbles rising all together over the beautiful green hills, to slowly spread out and disappear in the blue!   That’s exactly what happened at Umbriair, where over twenty teams from different European countries come to ride their magical sphere and compete for the winning place!   The experience was just unbelievable, even without my red dress, but see for yourself..

Quel giorno mi ero svegliata prestissimo e non stavo più nella pelle!  Solo vedere volare una mongolfiera di solito mi riempiva di gioai e felicità, immaginate vederle cinque, dieci, venti,  tutte gigantesche palle colorate, che salivano tutte insieme nel cielo blu!!  Questo è esattemente quello che succedeva in Umbriair, dove più di venti squadre internazionali gareggiavano per il titolo del vincitore, sorvollando le dolci colline Umbre!
